| Well, I'm not much of a traveller, more a home bird of late.
But I was thinking of somewhere we could post our observations of different places we've been to such as on transport, policing, infrastructure, prices, people, lingo etc.
I noticed a few things in NY this time which I didn't notice in '88. | |

| exactly. I can stick some observations down for Paris too though I didn't spend as much time there. Pretty useless observations too as people here have probably been there several hundred times already. One of the first things I noticed was the presence of 'free' bicycle stations casually placed around the city. You are charged after a half an hour of use but you can always bring it back and get another one before it expires... like the recent Dublin suggestion. It'd be great if half the cars were got rid of out of the city on the first Sunday of every month or something too... Shouldn't we start a blog? I've got pitchers... |

| O Lynnott you are welcome ! Where have you come from? You must be soaking wet with the rain sit down and have a cuppa tae. (nothing to Phil I presume?) |

Greetings too to Rocky Racoon (your copy of Gideon's bible is in the drawer whenever you need it) and AfricanDave - we'll organise the brai once you get settled. Thank you very much for the warm welcome Kate. I was away for the long weekend and just got back. Looking at the schedule ahead of me. , it appears that I will be an infrequent contributor until July, between work and writing a thesis from scratch again after it was wiped from my laptop. I am trying very hard to hide my homicidal mood. I just cannot believe IT sometimes. |

Have you tried taking it in to a pc repair shop and having the hard drive searched? Have you notes you can farm out to someone else to help with typing? The only plus with retyping is it is much faster than first time around as it is all there in your head. This time around, a usb pen, print outs and a lot of back up - lightning can strike twice - I can testify to that. Going to a secluded spot and smashing something might help too. Good luck. |

Good luck. Thank you for the sympathy and understanding, cactus flower. I am an übertechnophobe. I loathe IT in all its horrendous forms. As my girlfriend says, I have a pathological relationship with IT. She has never met anybody who hates it more than I do. Luckily for me, my brother is an IT Consultant specialising in internet firewall security design consultancy. (Or "bullshit", to give it its technical name) Unluckily for me, he lives in a different time zone, a different country and when we talk on the phone, it seems he is on a different planet. Needless to say, he speaks a different language. While I labour on in standard English, his awesome fluency in technobabble is a sight to behold. On a more optimistic note, I actually work for a large multinational IT company. So I am bound to find somebody who can fix it. This should be ok as long as they don't ask me any questions. I take your point about writing it again in the expectation that second time around will be quicker. That works in English but not, experience informs me, in German. This was in German. If I finally get out of this bind, I will have a whip-around in my local here to raise enough money to buy a 22-storey disused building in Moldova for the sole purpose of pushing computers off the top of it. Thanks for the encouragement |

Thanks for the encouragement Which means more demand for Limerick-produced Dell computers leading to more exports I can croon over as a bull on the Irish economy! Great post, btw. |

| Thanks, guys. I am happy to provide you with a silver lining, Ard, even if I am having difficulty appreciating it myself at this point in time. Developing that as a business idea, cactus flower , will have to be put on hold for the time being. For the foreseeable future, it is back to the . And I am really pissed off at that. Bis bald! |

| And to Cu Chonnacht as well who arrived earlier but I was having a siesta and could only half see.
You are both welcome and will abide by the Charter lest ye be flung into the outer darkness. The Charter being in essence, Love your neighbour's Machinery as you do your own and have patience that the person with whom you are communicating still has a lower grade mobile phone than you.
Enjoy your stay here - there is plenty to do and to be done so if you feel like rolling up your sleeves then you are welcome but if you want to relax then there are all sorts of places and bars here to do your R&R in.

Evotingmachine0197, I just happened to be passing the chipper. I am frazzled with the brewing of tea. At the present rate of enjoinment (?) we will have to put out one of those thermos flasks with a "help yourself" sign. |

Why in the world didn't you tell us that before we (and esp cactus) spent all those hours on the charter? I bet Moses felt the same after slipping down the Mount in those sandals with two ruddy great tablets only to have JC come along later and summarise it into Love thy neighbour. Harrumph. |

Gura maith agat a chara. An bhfuil sé fíor go bhfuil "cead" againn an Ghaeilge a scríobh taobh amuigh den fhóram Gaeilge? |
