The PhotoSynth thingy on CNN is cool.
People are emailing in their photos and they are being referenced to known 3D points. You can zoom and pan. Cool.

My brother headed over to the inauguration. It was amazing by all accounts but getting out of Washington was obviously an absolute nightmare.

If that was the reason for the trip it is a sad case of delusion. He will return crying about carbon emissions

I can never understand why anyone would go and watch this or similar. Why do people need pomp and ceremony. Caligula is gone, and the new man is in, amen. Will he be a Claudius or a Nero? Given his acting talents Nero would seem the stronger comparison just now.
Be better spending the time talking to the elderly couple around the corner. More entertaining and a lot more reality and truth.

The appearance is populist and demagogic. NY Times journalist described his speech as "cold-eyed and hawkish". He was elected by a mass of people who hated Bush and everything he and his group had done, but the Obama administration is full of people who are old school. He'll have to make some gestures to satisfy the people who voted him in, but I'm going to look elsewhere for hope and change.

He spent 160 million to make himself look impotent as the old joke goes. He is the perfect puppet because most can not see through the biggest load of hot air since the Kracatoa volcano. It was like watching the germans cheering Hitler. They have brainwashed themselves

He was in New York anyway.

Thank God for that, then being a witness was well worth the trip down.

Hank Green over at Ecogeek is cataloguing Obama's infrastructural plans intended to contribute to healing and rebuilding the shocked economy.

Sounds good to me
I would hope a forensic examination of Wall St and a cleanout of the bankers and their bonus will be on his agenda as well
there are many places that would then follow his lead

The bonus culture is disgusting. As I have said before I have a relative who works in the City with a base salary of £40k, took home £180k last year.

Read Cityboy or Liar's Poker, and be even more appalled
Actually, having read both books, I'm beginning to see Governments shaking out their banks as a real opportunity for a better and less consumption oriented world.
Certainly, the whole free market gospel of the church of Mammon ideology is gone, or going, at any rate

I see he had to use his laser finger to burn his way into the Oval Office:

Charlie Bird on RTE saying Obama was straight out of the traps, 'hitting the ground running', freezing pay for top staff earning over 100k and issuing 'Belt-tightening' sounds saying America needs to live differently and his own staff have to lead by example.
The revolving door of lobbyists going in and out of the White House will close too he says and become more transparent to the people.
Guantanamo Bay to be closed within a year but what is he going to do with the detainees there ?
And he takes the Oath of Office a second time because of a stumble over a word 'faithfully'. The Constitution is sacred to the plenty of Americans and some refer to it as the only legal document bar none they need.

If I hear one more television presenter saying that Obama has 'hit the ground running' I'm going to smash my telly up.
Here's an alternative view of Obama from the journal of African American political thought and action - it's called the Black Agenda Report and it's an excellent website. If you are one of those people who is determined to view Obama through rose-tinted spectacles and think he is anything other than superficially different to Bush, then don't go there:
