Don't worry Ard-Taoiseach it doesn't have to be a blog. This one isn't either - it's from some dude, Michael Pidgeon (?) who seems to have whipped our idea for the Party Manifestos panel on the portal Shocked

We'll have to replace that panel with a link to Pidgeon's site.

http://www.michaelpidgeon.com/manifestos/ee.html

Ah, Michael Pidgeon! He's down near yourself in Clare at the University of Limerick. He's a member of the Young Greens and goes by the name of Pidge on P.ie. cookie and him are somewhat estranged.

I would love for Alex to have its own panel like the moon one. I find Alex is great fun and quite apt.

Ah yes Pidge from pie. I see where the avatar name comes from now!

Going from what he posted during the p.ie FI days- and views later on- he was a member of the YPDs but he's now a happy member (or supporter?) of the Greens I believe?

Are the blogs actually on the portal or is this all speculative?

They were on the Portal for a long time, but in a recent overhaul they became hidden. I think the Plan is to get them up again.

There used to be some but we cleaned it out. Now we're slowly but eventually putting them back on there. Wouldn't you like to have a wordpress blog or something like that or is the P.ie one enough work because there's a fair bit of work involved to keep one going everyday.

So yeah we're assembling a blogroll I suppose. It'll go up one day soon.

We have a good few members with established blogs of their own, so I suppose the first thing would be to get them linked to the Portal.

I've often considered making a blogspot one. But creating and maintaining an independent blog would be a lot of extra work, would create an obligation to post regularly and wouldn't receive any attention. I'd make a proper blog if I thought people would read it. But realistically I'm not an important or well-known person. But making a few blog posts on P.ie I'm not going to any major hassle, there's no major disappointment if nobody reads them and people are more likely to click onto my blog because of the "Blog posts: x" thing when you make a post. Maybe one day I will deign to go the extra step and create a real blog.

Not really a blog of course - a good idea for a site where you can hire a tradesman online. I haven't looked into it in depth but I'd imagne you could haggle, you can select your tradesman based on feedback from satisfied customers, you can or could get tradesmen in your area.

This is the kind of thing that needs massive advertising though doesn't it ? You can easily imagine it would grow competitors too which is always healthy in an economy.

People are reluctant to hire tradesmen for a lot of reasons - price, quality of service, availability of tradesperson.

Despite the totally sexist title, it's a fine Irish idea

I have one, but with 20 minutes a day for politics I dont have time to really tidy up a coherant argument. Easier just post a quick rant here. My last entry was in November so its not much use I'm afraid.

Perhaps we could have bloggers teach in here one day, and anyone interested have a go at setting one up.

Your own blog ? This thread is meant to gather a few sites which people like and return to or that might fit in with this place as being handy or recommended.

If you have time to blog your own then fair play but it's easier and less restricted to belt away on a forum like this.

You should go for it ecu. It won't receive any attention for months or maybe even years. People won't read it until they notice it. When they do notice it they won't read it unless it's any good. But you'll still enjoy the discipline of posting (even if only semi-regularly). Only if you can maintain it for years in the wilderness are you likely to assemble any sort of regular audience. I suspect most established bloggers started out with zero readers and built from there. Very few started out famous or important. In an Irish context, assembling a couple of dozen regular readers/commenters is a major achievement. I reckon the worst reason for starting a blog is to find an audience, because most blogs never do.

I won't fall over you saying I'm your biggest fan but I think that last sentence in your above post shows you are a Writer.

The Limerick blogger seems to have gained an audience fairly spontaneously too as has Grandad but your last line up there again, though only a handful of words, has a world of meaning behind it.

Thanks for that coc. You're right. I've set up a kind of blog lite over on P.ie where I post my views on various topics, usually re-posted from threads on various boards (as well as a weird but cool dream I had last nigh). But when I get a bit more time I may well set up a proper blogspot one.

Yeah of course. I see the role of keeping a personal blog a little differently then just disemminating information to others. The forum here is good for debate, but at some stage you need to plant a stake in the ground and say "Here is what I believe in - at least right now". The idea of my blog is really therefore just to help myself remeber what I believe in. No doubt forums like these have helped me immensly, but life goes and brain cells die and a lot of what was gained gets wasted. All of us here have a story to tell. My advice would be to record it down, if not for others, then at least for yourself.
When he died my grandfather left a long letter in his will, expousing his view on the world as well as explaining his life. This was in the tradition of his people in his part of the world. It was a true legacy.
