| Why do I (in spite of having worked in TV news) still get shocked rigid by the apparent alternative universe in which RTE News is living? I thought I would watch the 6 o'clock news to see what the response to the fairly serious news that the EU is taking disciplinary action against Ireland for the reckless 2009 Estimates. http://www.eubusiness.com/news-eu/1225720921.85From 6 to 6.15, the sole topic of the news was someone who may, or may not, have threatened on the internet to kill her husband (who hasn't? ) From 6.15 to 6.25 we were treated to a studio based conversation in the US between two RTE journalists chatting about Obama. From 6.25-6.28 we had Cowen telling us that he hoped everything would be all right in a year or two. What aren't I getting here? |

What aren't I getting here? The real reason why the country is as fecked up as it is - the plain people of Ireland just dont wanna know - if they did serious real issues - over 70% of the viewership would switch over to Expose on TV3 |

| Pretty much correct. Laura Bermingham is on it though isn't she? She is a nice lady - offscreen anyway, haven't ever watched a programme that she is on. |

RTE are a disgrace at the moment. They seem ALL to be in the US chatting to each other about what may or may not happen in the election, between shopping trips to the malls. At the same time they are not covering the economic situation in any serious kind of way. Btw - since when are we competing with the Daily Mail? Why have we gone tabloid with out picture of the day? Rant rant rant |

| Yea I didn't think it was the greatest picture of the day. Surely one of the US election or the DRC would be more appropriate. |

Their coverage of the US election has been rubbish. Early on they were so enamoured with Hillary Clinton, they refused to acknowledge Obama had a chance. Now, they just keep repeating this stupid point about the Bradley Effect as some sage wisdom which proves Obama can't win. There is more at play here than the damn Bradley effect, which it is reckoned by some pollsters doesn't even exist anymore. |

I agree and honestly feel that this is reprehensible and dangerous. It is lulling people into inaction and complacency, when the healthy reaction would be panic, focused minds and activity. |
