| The rampant sexism displayed in discussion about so called chick flicks got me thinking about the parallel market of films for men. ('Fella fillums', maybe?) There are films out there which do cater for a certain age group and a certain sex. I have a feeling Dumb and Dumber is such a film. While I'm sure plenty of wimmin enjoyed it, the same could be said about men watching Clueless. Other fims that spring to mind are Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Super Troopers. Is this in my head or is there such a genre? If so, shouldn't it get as much comment (and criticism) as the female genre? |

| "Dick Flicks" you mean?
Mallrats and anything with comics, bodily excretions, puerility. And the fillums with the boy racers, the hot girls, the Midnight Racer stuff. Yeah, it must be a genre. |

| Do women not like Bourne? I seem to remember my sister going to see it purely on account of Matt Damon (don't what the fuss is about). Bond films definitely. |

| I always thought Bond movies were more for girls. I've never really been to itnerested anyway. Films with explosions and gunfire are generally seen as films for men, things like Rambo, Terminator etc, but then there is the stuff, like Auditor says, with bodily excretions, boy racers etc. Dude Where's My Car and The Fast & The Furious spring to mind. |

You guys seemed to know a lot about the better class of chick flick. We're allowed to take a look at Matt. |

| The Fast and the Furious - that's it.
There's Clerks too - is that a Dick Flick? Or maybe it's virtually anything with Tom Cruise in it? |

First fountain pens and now Bond films. I think I'm in love. |

| The Bond films are a load of shite and the same goes for Indiana Jones. The Bourne films are a hell of a lot of better than Bond. I also hate science fiction films like Star Wars etc. All of the above, however, are boys films rather than girl`s films. Now for what it`s worth I would define the following as class films that are also male orientated but they`re a class above the above rubbish. By male-orientated I mean would appeal much more to a mail audience. This is off the top of my head. 1. Downfall 2. Scum 3. ID 4. Thin Red Line 5. Bad Santa |

| I disagree with you as far as the original Indiana Jones films go. They're good in my opinion. The new one was merely light entertainment. |

| That`s all any of them are is light entertainment. Fair enough if that`s what you want to see but they don`t interest me personally. I really like my films and for me they wouldn`t give me what I`d look for. Apocolypto is a bloke`s film as well but a great one. |

| Is Braveheart a dick flick? I'd go for Braveheart, although my vote is probably discounted given I've seen Mamma Mia. |

| Not all Bond films are shite.
My list would go something like: 1. Pulp Fiction 2. The Great Escape 3. Casino Royale 4. Dumb and Dumber 5. The Usual Suspects
The Thin Red Line and Downfall are a bit cerebral I think. I don't know Scum or ID. Bad Santa was brilliant though. I feel a Donald Sutherland film should get an honourable mention too, maybe Kelly's War? |

| I`m not going to edit my original post but I apologise for the manner in which I described the Bond and Indy films. They are not shite. It is merely my opinion that they are. Another great bloke`s film by the way is Lawrence of Arabia. |

I saw it too and I went with a big bunch of lads! We were on holidays in the place where it was filmed (Skiathos) and we'd been up on the sets. That's our excuse... |

It was a TV film commissioned about a Borstal. A young Ray Winstone is in it. ID was made in about 1989 about football hooliganism. It`s a cracker. Kes is another great bloke`s film. |

| I`d go to Mamma Mia although the last time I voluntarily saw a musical was Phantom of the Opera which I thought was awful. I was genuinely disgusted because the story itself is a great one. Another great film if you ever see it is "Son of the Morning Star" which is about the Little Big Horn. Gary Cole is in it. |

| anmajornarthainig that's a serious list to which you might add Once Were Warriors ??
The Indy films were a form of comedy for me so in they go with Charlie Chaplin etc.
Apocalyto - what a film ! The costumes were amazing though most people were naked - a very haunting film but I'd put it in with history like The Mission or political history films like the El Salvador priest one except Mel Gibson has an arty twist for the history ones - Braveheart too. It might be horrible but it's still history.
Sci-Fi is for boys rather than men. That's meeee |

| I have Once Were Warriors upstairs on DVD. I`ve seen bits of it but I`ve never got around to watching it from start to finish but I must. The Untouchables: "I said your friend died screaminig like a stuck Irish pig." |
