1798- John and Henry Sheares were hanged in Dublin having been convicted of high treason.

The United Irishmen were defeated at the Battle of Knightstown, Co. Louth.

Births

1976- Kirsten Sheridan, film director and screen writer. Her father is Jim Sheridan.
