On This Day 3rd July in Irish History

1798- Fr. John Murphy died in captivity.

1881- Billy the Kid was shot and killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in Fort Sumter, New Mexico. Legend has it that Billy was of Irish descent although little definite is known of his background. He did use the name McCarthy as an alias though.
