1863- The New York Draft Riots, which were recreated for the film Gangs of New York, began.

1981- Martin Hurson died on hunger strike in the Maze Prison.

1985- The Live Aid benefit concert was held in London, Philadelphia, Moscow and Sydney. It was the brain child of Bob Geldof.
