| Might as well stick this up now that we're (technically) into it!
1991:The UVF and UFF announce a joint ceasefire for the duration of talks.
1945: Alan Dukes(FG) was born.
1916:Eoin MacNeill countermands order for rising
Any more events, fellow citizens? |

| 1945 - The front of heaven was full of fiery shapes, of burning cressets, and the frame and huge foundation of the earth shaked like a coward. The goats ran from the mountains, and the herds were strangely clamorous to the frighted fields. |

| Bertie: These promises are fair, the parties sure, And our induction full of prosperous hope.
Dukes: Sit, cousin Bertie, sit, good cousin 'vice-President', for by that name as oft as Ganley doth speak of you his cheek looks pale and with a rising sigh he wisheth you in heaven.
Solana: And you in hell, as oft as he hears Alan Dukes spoke of. |

22 April 1916: The Aud, (a.k.a. SMS Libau), under Captain Karl Spindler scuttled his ship in the approaches to Cobh Harbour to ensure her cargo of arms did not fall into enemy hands. He and his crew spent the rest of the War in captivity in England.

| Where do you get all these events, Brandubh? They're brilliant. Thanks for bringing the thread back on topic.
On topic, I'm delighted to read another piece of information about the "Great Liberator". Daniel O'Connell truly was one of Ireland's greatest people. |

I read Katherine O'Shea's memoir a long time ago - first and only history book I read for years. Well worth it, as far as I recall. |

On topic, I'm delighted to read another piece of information about the "Great Liberator". Daniel O'Connell truly was one of Ireland's greatest people. I was out of work last year for about 8 weeks so for my own amusement I put together the basis for this. I only really returned to the theme when this Site got going. Though as Bertie might say: a lot done - more to do! Daniel O'Connell is indeed one of our greatest sons. Indeed I spent a couple of hours online last night searching for material on him. |
