9 April 1793: Catholic Relief Act (33 George III, c.21 extended parliamentary franchise to Catholics, this enabling them to hold civil and military offices not specifically excepted, and removing statuary bar to university degrees.



9 April 1812 - The Hibernia regiment of Spain and Napoleon's Irish Legion face each other at Badajoz during the Peninsular War.



9 April 1916: The Aud leaves the German port of Lubeck bound for Ireland with 20,000 rifles and ammunition on board to help arm the Irish Insurgents.
