Professor Richard Sinnott will be analysing the latest Eurobarometer poll live on www.euireland.tv tomorrow morning. Sorry about the short notice, but what we get is all we can give...

Eurobarometer is a regular EU-wide poll of attitudes towards the European Union. It is carried out every six months in every Member State.

The first results for the 27 Member States, including some general data for Ireland, was published in December (see press release on link http://ec.europa.eu/ireland/press_office/media_centre/dec2008_en.htm#5 for 18 December)

The detailed country-specific report for Ireland is to be published on Tuesday 17 February. The team who carried out the poll and analysis, led by Professor Richard Sinnott of UCD, will present the findings and take questions. The presentation and Q&A will take place from 10.30 am at the European Commission Representation in 18 Dawson street.

The event will be webstreamed at www.euireland.tv and Professor Sinnott has agreed to take a small number of questions from viewers on-line. Questions should be not more than about 50 words long and should be submitted by 11.15 am - the link to do so is on the euireland.tv website.

He did, for a course on Irish electoral patterns. I have posted a few graphs here on left/right spectrum issues which are taken from the powerpoints from his lectures.

I see. He must be a great lecturer. I've only seen him on telly and heard him on the radio but he certainly knows itself.

F*** it, we missed it.

A leading political scientist is warning the Government not to use the economic crisis to push through a Yes vote on the Lisbon Treaty.

UCD professor Richard Sinnott was responding to a new European Commission poll showing that Irish voters are the most pessimistic in Europe about the economic situation.

European Affairs Minister Dick Roche said yesterday that a Yes vote in the planned re-run of the Lisbon Treaty referendum was vital to Ireland's economic recovery.

However, Mr Sinnott says it would be a mistake to make this a centrepiece of the referendum campaign rather than focusing on the content of the treaty itself.

Funny how tings change, wouldn't think he teaches on anything like that - international based - anymore. Certainly I only came across him in respect of electoral patterns in Ireland. There are some great courses in Post Communist Russia and the Transition of Eastern Europe at undergraduate level in the Politics Department though - mostly lectured by Derek Hutchinson.
