I can't help wondering too if religious mysticism isn't unrelated to the evolutionary psychology thing of regression to more basic parameters of living - being stuck for food, shelter, having to hunt etc. a sort of communion with nature.
Most of us are at least ethical if we've been suitably religiously indoctrinated but it's not always easy to be so ethical when perhaps you meet a lot of assholes or a lot of bad stuff happens to you. What would you recommend toxic, read The Book of Job ? I ain't the best Catholic in the world, by a long, long way, so I won't recommend anything. The Old Testament is a great read if you enjoy lots of smiting though... |
