| Staff in briefing on SR Technics' future
Workers at aircraft maintenance firm SR Technics at Dublin Airport are being briefed by senior management this morning on the future of the company.
The company employs over 1,200 employees, which rises to 1,500 at peak times of the year. http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0212/srtechnics.htmlJust heard on RTE that these jobs ARE going - did I hear that correctly I wonder? |

| The 630,000 and what is now coming up about banks tells you all you need to know about business culture in Ireland.
We all have our networks, and people we work with, send work to and support. I like to think that mine is based on competence. Certainly any nonsense and people are struck off my list fast,
However what you also get are networks of self help based on belonging to a group. Get enough of these parasites in positions of authority and you eventually kill the efficiency of an economy dead. The men that never criticise and are always ever so honoured to get work are well worth avoiding. I prefer frank honesty and value open opinion even if wrong. |

| SR Technics have been in trouble for years. They were in huge trouble at various stages when they were Team Aer Lingus before SR Technics bought the place out. Anyway, regardless of that it is a huge body blow to jobs in Dublin. I know a couple of people who work there, one for over 20 years and another just for 18 months. |

| Ryanair is due to announce 200 job losses at Dublin Airport today. This comes in addition to the 800 which are expected at Shannon following their announcement of a trimmed down service there. Added to the SR Technics issue that is approx 2,000 job losses announced in the airline and related industries within two weeks. |

| SR CEO said Ireland was 20% more expensive to operate than their other locations.
Considering their other locations are London and Zurich - that should give you some indication how totally out of touch this country has become in relation to competitiveness |

They currently earn about €34k... the managers in the place where it is moving to in Scotland earn £25kg stg. Just shows you. |

| Another 470 job losses announced in Limerick according to 6.1 news at an outsourcing company. So far today three companies have announced job losses of 2,500.
I believe there will also be some major job losses announced tomorrow. |

| That isn't good news, sounds like the beginning of a pull out.
I know of another place that will be letting go 500 in the coming week or so. |

There was also a steady loss of indigenous manufacturing jobs across the country, masked by new jobs in places like Intel. The ESRI published figures on this every year. Government's response was to carry on pushing costs up in every way conceivable, except direct taxation. |

| Extraordinary things must be happening all over the world because of the crash. This really really isn't funny: - Quote :
- Ex-mistress drove lover and rivals off cliff Print Email+ Share+ 17/02/2009 - 18:18:50
A spurned mistress drove her lover and his four other women off a cliff after losing a bizarre talent contest to decide who would stay with him.
The Chinese businessman, named only as Fan, apparently needed to reduce his harem after suffering from the world economic downturn.
He decided to make all but one redundant and staged the talent show in a hotel in Qingdao, judged by a local model agency, without telling the women what it was for, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The women were assessed on their looks, their singing and speaking and their ability to drink alcohol.
One, named only as Yu, was knocked out in the first round based on her looks, and a Ms Liu eventually took the crown after she won the drinking contest.
When Fan told Yu she had lost her position and he was selling her apartment, she decided to take revenge.
She invited him and the other four women to tour Laoshan Mountain, a scenic site in Qingdao, before she returned to her home province, then drove through the guard barrier on a mountain road.
She died and the other five were seriously injured |

| I know of one large Chartered Accountancy firm which has cut its staff by just over 10% and another which has cut its staff to a four day week... which presumably means they will be paid for four but expected to work five. |

| 20,000 public sector workers to be sacked in California, where they have failed to make a budget and are running out of money for wages. |

| Wouldn't be surprised, UCD has a significant deficit. Very little funding out there for any phd research if you aren't in sciences. |

| Unfortunately cactus, the youngest and brightest are often the ones on contracts. Whereas some older staff enjoy wallowing in their security. |

| Again that is correct, it is like secondary teaching in alot of ways with that... the best young teachers often do not yet have a permanent position. |
