Dow Jones went up over 300 today. Biggest ever election day increase.

Only been open on election day for 8 elections mind you... prior to 1980 it was closed on election day.

I feel that Obama will win, he's after winning an exit poll with 72% of the vote and a few places in New Hampshire have already declared for Obama. He should get it.

Those Electoral College business is weird though - they need 270 votes overall and whoever wins California gets 55 - even if there's a percent in it..

Or a tenth of it. All you need is the most votes in that state, it doesn't even need to be a majority.

The electoral college votes are allocated by a very simple equation - the number of Representatives + the number of Senators which the State has. In an indirect system this ensures a level of beneficial represenetation for smaller states in that every State has two senators no matter what its size is. Thus smaller states can in some cases be over represented. It is akin to the European Union where States such as Ireland have over representation in the Parliament when directly compared to larger States, eg Germany.

No you wouldn't. I just can't see McCain pulling off a victory, even the Bradley effect will be overwhelmed by the huge vote which is turning out from especially the black community to vote for Obama.

These guys got it wrong all night once before. I won't hold my breath.

Part of the problem with exit polls, I have heard, is that they have a much higher response rate from younger people. That is because you have students standing there carrying out the exit polls and the people most likely to be bothered going over and giving their opinions are people of a similar age. Also, polls done face to face are less likely to be accurate.

Democrats just gained a Senate Seat in Virginia. It is the first time, I think ever, but certainly in a long time, that Virginia has had 2 Democrat Senators. I guess that kind of result is a good sign for Obama.

65,000 people have gathered in Chicago to see Obama speak later. They are expecting possibly a million people to come.

Who is staying up all night?

Virginia, Flordia and Indiana looking like they might go to McCain. Looking very interesting.

Work tomorrow at 8am. Will probably sleep at 3am.
