I just got a quote of €2200 for a 03 Prius.
Thing is the excess on that was €4000!!!!
Is that an insurance quote? What's "excess", Precious?

I wouldn't call it an insurance quote, more at attempt at extotion.
An excess is the amount you pay for a claim made against your insurance. Typically it's around €200.

For the moment, yes, yes I do.
But that €2200 was a quote for insurance cover on a 03 Prius subject to an excess on the policy of €4000.

That quote for 2200 euros a year is for insurance. When I read it first I thought it was the price or the car. The missus got a brand new what is called a plymouth voyager there recently and full comprehensive insurance is less than a grand. To get a better feeling for the socialist mindset today I bought Barracks book in paperback for 8.34 dollars. Of course I will be getting Paul's book in hardback regardless of cost.

That mileage is actually looked upon an good. She choose the 3.8 litre model called the Dodge Grand Caravan here. As recently as 1999 gas was less than 1 dollar a gallon. Cheapest today at 3.07. Did ye get a chance to watch the video on the air car on the other thread.

I don't think even 3.8 litre buses exist here yet..that's a massive engine - you'd burn a lot of gas driving across the largest state in the union. My car does about 11 miles to a litre - don't ask me about gallons there's US and UK ones (I think about 40 miles to UK gallon - 8 pints?)
I must get to watch the moon one yet. I didn't know there was an air car one - I'll have a look..

I can't seem to see it. Is it a TATA air car by any chance? I know the Indians have designed a compressed air car and are selling it for four grand. The have a small petrol one for sale as well.
Apparently Ratan Tata spent 20 millio euros on developing the Air Car ... it would cost that here for some consultant to give advice on a 10 km stretch of motorway

That's a cute car - I reckon it's from Ratan Tata too. youngdan you've got the hang of the linking. Would you think Americans would go for a yoke like that? What energy would be used to compress the air? And it sounds like it's getting a lot more efficiency out of its energy than if it were propelled by petrol (100 mpg equivalent) That is, if it were powered by gas then you would get 100 mpg which is beyond technology we have to get this mileage from just gas/petrol. Dan if this were widely adopted by your fellow Americans then wouldn't the balance of payments alter dramatically positively?
Very low maintenance technology - looks like the future is finally on it's way - all someone has to do now is analyse the comparative energy efficiencies of internal combustion versus the Air Car and we're away in a hack.
From the Competitive Price section - We estimate the cost of purchasing a six-seater, 75hp Air Car will be approximately $17,800, proving that buying “green” doesn’t have to cost more. Not only is the price amazingly affordable, but it will cost you up to five times less in fuel consumption than an equivalent gasoline powered car. The Air Car is a totally new breed of cars entirely conceived to achieve low prices: Ingenious design. The car’s modular, advanced materials and manufacturing techniques simplify manufacture. No dealer’s = no middleman costs. In our business model, your Air Car is delivered to you directly from the local/regional factory, eliminating any dealer mark-up and shipping costs. Low fuel costs. You can get an equivalent of 106 MPG. It can cost as little as $2 to refill your tank with air. Simple maintenance. All parts will be supplied by the manufacturer to a network of licensed repair shops that will simply replace defective parts. It is easy, fast and first class since all parts are new. Reduced maintenance anyway. The Air Car requires no cooling circuit and uses no hot gases. No combustion = no residues. An oil change is only necessary every 31,000 miles!

What's the reason for the disproportionate excess, cm? It must be driver, rather than car-related?

Is not from my own company Kate, I think it's from that XSplus place. And yes it is driver related, because I'm under 26 it is obvious I'm going to go joy riding in my uber cool Toyota Prius.
Bloody insurance companies!
Still looking for a new job, may have found two which would be super compatable with my plan to go back to study. United Nations here I come!

Did you watch the video I linked as well. Sure people will go for it here. Most driving here are short trips. Because nearly every household is 2 vehicles the 2nd one could be the air car. Even if the mail service used them it would be a massive saving. The video makes things clearer. The firm is French and is a start up independent of any auto company.

Have a look at this before the oil companies buy up all the technology... Nothing unconventional about this vehicle - it's essentially driving a car on compressed air which has been used in power tools for decades. Coupled with the wankel design, the lightweight, no-combustion Air Car ® has to be the key to city driving in the near future.
