| Subject: Bailout plan: Plenary indulgences available again Tue Feb 10, 2009 1:25 pm | |
| Some more conservative dioceses in the US are promoting the issuing of plenary indulgences according to today's New York Times. I thought the practice had been banned but apparently it is only the sale of indulgences that was outlawed. The conditions for receiving these are strict though, and include 'achieving a complete detachment from any inclination to sin' so I guess it's only for the few, like the banks bailout. The offer is limited to one plenary indulgence per sinner per day and remits time spent in Purgatory but has no currency in hell. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/10/nyregion/10indulgence.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&hp |
