Its quite late. I expect your tired. I've been working late too. Perhaps a good sleep would help, and in the morning give us a list of what you need to do and see if anyone can help. i have to get off to bed now to get some ZZzzzzs.

Cheers Sleep

TGOC, I posted this elsewhere in order to solve a problem you have with legal copyright. This is how you can do it without incurring unnecessary expense.

TGOC, talk to a/your solicitor. Tell him about the designs etc. that you want copyright protection on and mail them to his office in a registered letter. The registration certifies the date. Your solicitor will NOT open the letter/parcel. He will keep it for safe-keeping (presumably for a small fee). If you see that one of your designs is being reproduced without your permission or plagirised by bearing a remarkable similarity to one of your designs, your solicitor can swing into action with an infringement case.

A dark night, but this morning I just sent a large package of knowledge to India. The copyright should be ok since it is in the name of JiffyMath, and that is one of my registered business names.

No guarantee that the copyright is absolutely safe, I'm afraid. But I suppose it's better than nothing. I wish you luck.

Try this site TGOC - it is the Copyright Associations of Ireland and has some good FAQ stuff.

I would read it if I had copyright/patent issues.

I don't know what this thread is about but if it touches on copyright, patents, industrial designs or so forth then the people to call are F.R. Kelly & Co. solicitors and trademark attorneys of Clyde Road, Ballsbridge. They are in the phone book.

That's all very well for patents for which a lot of technical knowledge is needed and knowledge of the process. Copyright is easier to protect and specialists like Kelly & Co. are not needed unless money is no object.

I was always under the impression there was a copyright library somewhere where you could check stuff in, get it datestamped etc and thereby be protected ?

My imagination again ?

This seems to be an area in which some government support for people setting up would be a good idea. I wonder if any of the agencies do anything by way of advice or assistance in getting advice.

I think you're thinking of The Copyright Bank, who used to be on Merrion Square. Unfortunately, they're now gone, since my uncle (who ran it) died last year, and I don't know of any similar service here, although Lawdit in the UK run one. Essentially, they're a deposit system that allows you to put a date-certified copy of your work into escrow. If it comes to a dispute, you can use it to prove your earlier claim.

Anyway, useful addresses:

What about the hea. I also have software projects associated with my animations, and I would like to set up projects. But since I am not accredited to any institution, it is often difficult. Any ideas?

I'm sure there is a way to put the flash directly on the forum page.

Did you make me an Admin on your forum? Would you not open up a portal like our own - it's lovely. Maybe if you make me Admin I could do something there before EVM comes along and steals my thunder Very Happy

On the other hand, do you know much about swf files and javascript, php and html? I don't but I could use a bit of hacking opportunity.

(hacking as in the old sense of the word)

Yes, I did make you Admin, so feel free to admin. What happens if two admins are logged in at the same time?

For flash, actionscript and javascript, for core development perl, python, also the squeak version of smalltalk. The older languages such as rexx, fortran. A little bit of Objective C, and applescript, also unix Mac OSX version.

Graphics systems, flash, blender.

Html of course. The best system for dynamic languages is Komodo. I don't have the full version now, but I still use the editor, and launch my applications by a little hack.

Also moinmoin wiki. I have a wiki on my own machine, which has never seen the light of day, but contains a lot of interesting designs for animathics.

You didn't make me Admin or put me in the Admin group. Don't worry, it's not like you're inviting me into your house or are giving me your car keys - I can drive and am house trained. There are two Admins logged on here at the moment (and a black hole hasn't opened up).

If you look at our portal here you'll see I've lodged your application just under the music panel which is just under the stats panel on the right.

http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/plweb-cgi/fastweb?TemplateName=hitlist.tmpl&view=ag-view&query_rule=((%24query3))%3Alegtitle&operator=and&numresults=25&sorting=none&query3=copyright&dbname=Acts&simplesearch.x=0&simplesearch.y=0

(EDIT: copy and paste the entire link into your URL bar, don't just click it)

Go there. Basically the first three results--the CRRA 2000 and the two subsequent amendments--are what you want as they represent the Irish law on the subject. Unfortunately the format is quite awkward, and you'll have to find the relevant section in the 2000 Act and then look through the amendments to see if there have been any changes to that section (chances are there won't be any major important changes). I know there's somewhere on the net where you can read statutes as amended, but I'm not sure where it is (it might be Westlaw.ie, which is a subscription service).

Hope that helps!

Thanks. The link doesn't go all the way to the legislation - what does CRRA stand for?

Sorry, clicking the link doesn't seem to work, you have to copy and paste the entire link into your browser's URL bar. CRRA stands for Copyright and Related Rights Act.

Agreed, but everyone is so busy today, and so focussed on economic matters, that they seem to have little time for other projects. Believe me, I have tried to encourage people to participate in my own work, which relates to education, and have so far been unable to get the sort of assistance I need, so I have had to plough a rather lonely furrow.

One area that I could do with immediate assistance with is in relation to posting .swf files onto Blogger. I have created a Google Group to act as the repository for the files, but the links keep getting broken. If anyone has a suggestion as to where to put rich internet media resources of the type used in falsh animations, which may then be posted on a blog, it would be extermely useful.

Thanks.
