PostSubject: Annoying things the site does   Annoying things the site does I_icon_minitimeSat Jul 12, 2008 11:06 pm

This one drives me barmy. How many people have written out detailed arguments, spent ages researching the subject and perfecting their post, only to find that the website has logged them out in the meantime. When they log in, all that hard work is gone.

I'm always amazed at people who write out really long posts. Are they not affected by this? And is there any way to end this infuriating practice?

There are quite a few annoying things this site does. The above is one of them and ignoring any formatting on my posts is another.

At the moment if I open a second window, the internet shuts down. Not the site but the connection I think.

The tragedy of the lost post (always the most perfectly expressed and argued) has happened to us all I expect.

Inserting links is too difficult.

If Auditor #9 was here he would give you a tutorial. I find it not too bad but took a bit of getting used to.
If you select POST REPLY rather than QUICK REPLY you get the full range of icons along the top of your posting window and can paste in links to images text or video if you click on the icons.

I know. But compared to more recent CMS editors it can be considered buggy though.

Are you going into properties and copying the url and then pasting it into the little box that comes up when you click on the icon?

I'm not, for there are not little boxes in which to paste.

That is one of the most enduringly irritating things about online discussion. I have written out, as you say, the most perfectly expressed and argued discourse on a subject replete with links and examples from text I have read only to see all my efforts dashed by the idiosyncratic whims of the online gods.

Then, as I recover from this indignity, I attempt to regain the vigour, verve and verbal vituperation of the original post but no! No! It doesn't sound right, the expression is shoddy and ambiguous, the examples so clear in the mind a murky miasma and the syntax scandalously savaged of sweet sonorous scintillation.

It gets my herd of goats.

Are there little icons at the top of your posting window?

You seem to have perfectly neat links in the between your ears thread?

As I said earlier, the buttons are there but they don't work.

I just got two e-mails telling me that I had new PMs on the site, but when I logged on... Sad

Not sure if it's a one-off, the product of a test, or a general glitch.
