Two lines of infants, marshalled by a short-sighted nun, queue in a freezing corridor, waiting for their turn to use the toilet. On the wall behind, a picture of Pope John Paul II beams down serenely. There is some perfunctory jostling and pulling of hair. But for the most part it is an utterly mundane scene. Suddenly, out of the blue, Brendan Thompson bursts out of the toilet waving his crotch around, screaming “Sister Maura, Sister Maura... My mickey got stuck in my zip!” Thirty or so of his classmates, male and female, crane their necks. Yip, it looks a bad one alright. Sister Maura doesn’t flinch. “It’s not your mickey Brendan” she says calmly. “It’s your penis.” She puts on her glasses. “Now let me have a look at it...”
