| The Laser beam was invented on this day, 46 years ago. Google is paying homage to this fact by changing its home-page. |

It's very important in astronomy, it can be used to measure very long distances. |

(points indiscriminately into the night sky) Scientist 2: Ohhh I dunno... Scientist 3: Wait, I know! We'll use a laser! Scientist 1&2: *gasp* (while scientist 3 points laser pointer at sky) Scientist 1: But I can't see the wee red dot? Scientist 2: Yeah, THATS how far away it is. Scientist 2&3 exchange a smug knowing glance. Scientist 1: Morons... |

Thanks, EvotingMachine, the printing one is perhaps the most well-known app for laser after eye surgery. - Quote :

They use it to find hidden decay, eliminates the need for suturing in soft tissue operations, for root canal work and sculpting gums. |

Personally - I owe my current (if tenous) employment to the Laser - We design and manufacture Lasers which etch and cut up silicon wafers. www.xsil.comMad things alright - even tho I have to go every six months and get my eyes tested as Im exposed to lasers on a daily basis and there has been been this black dot following me around for the last 6 months |
