| Do we have white smoke? The word from the punditocracy is that Obama will be the Democrat Nominee and that Clinton's campaign is over. People are looking forward to the first Obama - McCain debate. Matt Drudge appears to have made the announcement. LINK |

| Nah, too soon I think... I'd be surprised if she didn't go on a little further. On the other hand if it is true that she's cancelled appearances on TV, etc... well maybe... |

I thought that the only convincing moment in her last speech was when she said she would support the Nominee if not selected herself. |

| She's not making the money and that's a big problem. The democrats have one unelectable candidate - and a different unelectable president, I heard someone say yesterday. I'd hate to see her give up though... |

I'd hate to see her give up though... She has "loaned" over $10 million of her own money to her campaign - not easy to give up on that. |

| It's not looking great. My bet is Bill will break it to her that's its best to cut their losses in the very near future - after consulting her closest political advisors of course - and call it a day. McGovern pulling the plug is probably tipping point in terms of retaining internal Democratic support. Chances are Obama will bomb in November and McCain is almost certainly a one term President - if he makes it that far... So Hills has one more bite of the cherry in 2012. |

| I'm very unsure that Obama will bomb in November. To be honest I thought his post Indiana/NC speech had a lot more of his original lustre than we'd seen in a while. That will grab people. Now McCain, as those who saw him on the Daily Show this evening will know, is a personable and intelligent guy, and even for a leftist like myself his Presidency wouldn't be the worst outcome (indeed I'd be fascinated to see what sort of staff he put in the White House - Bush III it wouldn't be), but he's older... and that's a real problem.
I'm genuinely sorry for Clinton who I admire considerably, but her campaign has been barmy, almost self-destructive, with weird plays which can only be interpreted as utterly opportunistic. Okay, that goes with the territory, but even so... As for 2012. I seriously seriously doubt it. |

| Well that is a laugh. You get one chance and that is it. Now McCain is not called McNasty for nothing and his senate collegues of both parties in the main detest him. He makes Bush look like Einstein |

Agreed, I'd like to see Obama get in in Nov., and that's despite my initial feeling that he's a bit cheesy, but it's be so nice to have an intelligent gentleman in the whitehouse. We can expect every vicious trick in the book by the Reps, more so than if it was Clinton (who is so polarising and "well documented" and basically a female McCain in terms of likeability ). In any event, it'll be ugly, and it'll make 2004's "swift-boating" look positivly gentlemanly... |

Also, not impressed by Hills and McCain both offering to cut the gas taxes... the USA needs to cut its fossil fuel dependancy and feeding the addiction is not the way to go. Nul points for facile electioneering. Aren't they broke?? Don't they need the tax for undervalued stuff like hospitals and education?? Obama refused to pander to that little bit of populism (at least according to yesterday's IT). Intrigued... why is McCain called McNasty |

He isn't. There's a time and a place for name-calling but Machine Nation's not it. McNasty can go the way of Magic arse, Gormless and the rest. |
