| I was sitting working away yesterday afternoon when suddenly without warning got the shivers and felt a pair of raw throbbing marbles inside my throat. Working from home today with burning eyes and pounding head (nice comfy sofa though) Everyone on Morning Ireland seemed to have it today from the sound effects, and at least one client was coughing down the phone at me today. Has anyone else got the bug? |

| Thanks Ard Taoiseach. I'm sure that will do the trick. |

| When we started up this place I had vicious tonsillitis remember? I do. I gargled warm salty water and after a few days the throat infection was cleared. I took no drugs at all. |

Honey is also recommended. Untouched by boiling water it is a great natural antiseptic. If you're not fond of the salt, honey could be another option. |

| Aye - getting over it now, but it was pretty vile. First sign was a wave of gloom on Friday, and after that I was like Neil out of the Young Ones. |

| My Mum is sick in bed. But she probably picked it up from a patient. Maybe she passed it to me and I passed it to you over the interweb... |

Nope, just slip slow-release cyanide into their coffee half an hour before lunch. Leave the café to tidy up. |

Well...I have experience of these things. Corpses are just too much back-pain, you know? - Quote :

You too. It would indeed be appropriate to have a socialist weekend waht with yesterday being International Labour Day and all. However, I'll be back to my neo-liberalism by Monday! |

All that I knew Was the hole in my shoe Which was letting in water... My niece has it - which explains why she wouldn't sleep on her back last night but insisted on taking up position on my shoulder and icking all over my jumper. Poor thing. Hope you're all feeling better. |

| Not feeling too bad apart from the fiery marbles in throat. And am probably contributing towards global warming.
Sorry to hear about your stomach, Ibis. |

| Eczema seems to have hit me like a bolt from the blue.
First signs a couple of months ago and it's gotten progressively worse, it's on my legs; the backs of my knees particularly.
The desire to scratch is overwhelming and scratching makes it much, much worse (though it provides a certain masochistic comfort). I've never before been tempted to deliberately and repeatedly hurt myself but this is relentless, painful and more debilitating than I could have ever thought.
It doesn't look particularly obvious, except in places where I've scratched it badly.
Nobody in my family has it, I never had it as a child and now I do. Doctor diagnosed it a while back and recommended hydrocortisone which I'm not keen to use. Has anyone any experience of this? And has anyone any experience of an effective natural remedy?
There are particular food triggers - milk (which I only have in hot chocolate), eggs (which I love and am sorry to cut out), peanuts (which I almost never eat), soya (never eat - bad, bad stuff), wheat (I rarely eat bread or cakes, but happy for that to go and be replaced with oats) and fish (eat about once a week). Caffeine is an irritant - but I don't drink coffee and have cut out Coke which I used to keep me awake (following cactus' suggestion for keeping it in the car if driving alone and tired) and alcohol which I also don't drink.
The other irritants, like fur, food additives (I don't eat processed food) and shampoos (I use one that has wholly natural ingredients) are irrelevant and I'm at a loss to understand where it came from. But at the moment it's five am and I'd cheerfully cut both my legs off. Aqueous cream is good for moisturising but it doesn't ease the itch.
Any ideas or inspiration would be gratefully appreciated. |

| I have Eczema but I must not have had any symptoms of it in about a year at this stage. Best thing to stop the itch is a Hydrocortisone cream which is a form of mild steroid and anti inflammatory. Daktacort would be the most common branded hydrocortisone cream in Irish pharmacies.
I think you can get it over the counter but ask in your pharmacy. |

| Thanks johnfás. I have a prescription for a hydrocortisone cream but really, really would like to keep it as a last resort - a last resort that's looking ever more necessary of late. If there was a natural way of coping with it, I'd rather try that first, but I'm not sure how realistic it is... |
