I suggest pro-active management in the unlikely event of forum abuse - etiquette boot camp - only allowed to post when their mentor is there to give constant nudges, guidance or, if necessary, the boot. Mmm. That sounds good. We could also introduce a rule where only those posters with above 100 posts or Mod privileges are allowed to start threads. Rún iontach Ard-T Go raibh míle, Seathrún, agus failte go Machine Nation arís! Ceapaim go bhfuil gá orainn an run seo a chur i bhfeidhm chun an comhrá agus díospoireacht sa shuíomh seo a chaomhnú. |

major theme came up: Ireland's neutrality, the future of the €urozone, the unification of Ireland, the role of Ireland in the EU for examples, we could indeed have a specialist forum to discuss these at a level which is well-written, eloquent and accompanied by a wealth of insight.

Are you referring to how discussion would un-fold on my putative special discussions forum idea?
Or to the intrinsic value of my idea?
Thanks very much for your appreciation of my comments. First I confess I never went to the p.ie Leviathan forum but it sounds serious and very mature. Discussion has always the chance of getting messy especially on emotive issues unless we open debates on the relative benefits of on-shore and off-shore wind power or something. So yeah, how would you see discussion unfolding and would you see any place for debaters to promote themselves solely on one thread and then a discussion about the presentation on another.. Some good ideas too on keeping tabs on posters but it might be better to do it mentally . |

The only PP to reject Lisbon is SF. So get RoC back.
My brain is still saying NO to this referendum. Apart from me and NDS, are there actually any Yes voters?
[EDIT]And Edo - I'm appalled I forgot Edo![/EDIT] That's how I'm inclined at the moment. |

I was also thinking that we could scavenge P.ie for content while the discussion forum is getting started up. Cookie's Consensus, for example, was an excellent thread and I feel it can be given a proper venue here on Machine Nation. - Quote :

What I was thinking was that people could post on these threads like in all the other threads. However, the Edit and Delete functions are disabled. You would have to think very deeply about your response because once its there, it's there! Without the safety net of an edit function, posters would be a lot more aware of how they're going to express themselves. That is my ambition for this site: a consistently high standard of well expressed, well-written and insightful commentary and discussion 100% troll free. - Quote :

True, but it can restrain some posters when they see how many reports are piling in about their posting. We can shame some people into expressing themselves in a more tasteful and decorous manner. It is also useful to new users who are not as familiar with posters on this site as the more established members. |

| Another idea. Now that riadach has made the break to join Machine Nation fully, would it be possible to have all comments posted both in English and Irish? I quite like the idea of a fully bi-lingual forum. We can really improve our Gaeilge mar a gheall ar sin. |

Ha, I haven't got that much bloody time lol. Perhaps we could write a simple Irish language translator programme. Stick in Aim C, L agus F. An Modh Coiniollach, na Briathra Neamhrialta agus na rialacha faoin séimhiu agus an urú. |

| imho those are some awful ideas ardtaoiseach, re 100 post before starting thread and (especially when the site is new you can't do that) and getting rid of edit and delete is an awful idea too. i don't think it abused too much.
in terms of content how about links repository at the start of every thread, giving you the links necessary to follow the story which would be added to the top post as people find them and post em during the thread. |

You know that AT is referring to a special forum - not run of the mill discussion? |

Whatever about Riadach not having time, I'd have nothing else to do ...... Working bi-lingually would also help me drown out those "Get outside, it's sunny.....feck sake boy" voices inside for that bit longer as well.... I've found posting on forums in Irish has helped my command of the language because the bits you don't know and have to look up are directly relevant to you, because... well, you've just made that mistake or whatever... and sure it'd probably help others seeing a bi-lingual message with regards to doing sentence structure and that (of course, don't judge it by mine, because you'll only be learning the aul drochGhaeilge ) or did you mean an automatic translator thing, AT? you're a very very optimistic poster boy! |

| How about a Post of the Week section? Users could vote for posts through PMs to a dedicated POTW Mod who would count the result on Friday after noon and post it on a section of the "Portal" page on a Friday evening. |
