So may memories for me tied up in those songs...

I was an oldie nut when I was a kid - sat over my radio on the weekend with my finger on the record button to tape everything.

I know most of them - never liked Young Girl though; always sounded a bit scarily hysterical for a man to sing.... that and other connotations.

Jumpin Jack Flash really stands out, doesn't it?

Are they UK or US no. 1's ?

I always thought Odis Redding was No.1 on my DOB ?

It is a class photo. Motion, atmosphere, background, weather... the lot.

Good resolution isn't everything.

Excellent. That is exactly what I thought. Che gettin of a frieghter in some strife torn hell hole. It would have been a neat trick given he was already dead some 10 months before.

That was a great video. Galway Are Back by The Conquerors. I can not believe Tony changed so much from the time I saw him at the carnival in Craughwell though

I remember this article discussing this year in The Economist a few weeks back. A very interesting read, I must add.

Oh my God. Lily the Pink. I haven't even thought of that in decades. And as for ObLaDi ObLaDa!!!!

One song I always remember was Mary Hopkins singing 'Those were the days'. It is actually my earliest memory. I thought my earliest memories were grand-uncle Kit being found dead sitting in a chair in his house when my father and I visited him, and the death of my grandfather, both in 1969. I'd forgot Mary was in 1968, so that could well have been earlier. As I was born in April 1966 I would have been around two and a half when Mary's song was out. Cool. I have an even earlier memory than I thought.

I was just thinking last week of another early memory. I was walking down by Palmerston Road last week for for some strange reason at 4pm there was only 1 car moving. And that reminded me of sometime around 1970 sitting outside a shop in the nearby town, eating an ice cream, and watching the cars (1 every couple of minutes) drive by into the town. Today the town has an inner link road (typically in Ireland they chose to run it through a historic 18th century house rather than move it 30 yards and run through a pre-fab!) and a bypass is being planned. And that inner relief road is one long traffic jam. It is so different to that quiet Sunday afternoon, sitting on a wall eating an ice cream, beside my father's Morris Minor, in a traffic-free zone, and paying 1/2 d for the icecream. (The Irish Independent, BTW, if I remember correctly, was 7d!)
