One can criticise the US for a variety of things but when it comes to actually enforcing the law, nobody is sacred. Martha, Stewart, Leona Helmsley, Ivan Boesky, Michael Milken and now Bernie Madoff have in common their collar being felt and the long arm of the law reaching after them and nailing them for white collar crime.

In order to restore our reputation as a place where the law is enforced without fear or favour, we could adopt a similar approach. It is a ridiculous state of affairs that people can, in the words of Arthur Morgan TD, get locked up for not having a dog licence but one can pilfer €87 mio. from a bank, park it in another financial institution with the intention of defrauding an audit, and then go shopping with it for a variety of what has turned out to be rubbish, yet still walk around town dining in the best eateries and remain untroubled by the judicial process.

We just can't seem to enforce the law for white collar crime.

Some country.

It will be interesting to see what he actually gets. He managed to shift about 60 million into his wife's name anyway so if he manages a few years in prison followed by curfewed house detention he can still live in the lap of luxury.

Yeah, there were was a discussion on newstalk last week , can't remember who was on, but nobody could remember a prosecution for this kind of thing.

I sometimes hear people in this country saying 'we all love a rogue'

Well I for one don't. So if those rogue-loving people are reading this : speak for yourselves you clowns.
