I can understand that both of them went and couldn't have used a phone/teleconferencing apparatus but they could have used Dermot Mannion's Airline for far less.

Here Hermes is a subject that clearly shows how utterly delusional most of the posters are. They would think that it was a good idea to fly off in a jet to Texas. They park their jet beside Michael Dell's jet.

They don't get the fact that Michael Dell has gotten tired of paying for both jets. He is leaving Ireland because it is cheaper in Poland.

Business people from the smallest to the largest hold these parasites in distain but it never dawns on the parasites themselves. Dell must have been delighted that he would no longer be footing the bill.

Let me start by saying Tonys, I really do appreciate your position and my heart goes out to you and those who believe as you do. You're very right, there was absolutely nothing that Willie and Co. could have done that would not have met with scorn from people like myself. That said, December was way too late to be attempting to plug this particular hole. It was nothing more than a jaded and extortionate PR exercise. As Youngdan quite rightly says, Dell was always going to go to the cheapest host, as would any intelligent parasite. He'd be bloody stupid if he acted otherwise.

The big mistake that needs to be forensically examined here was letting the likes of Dell into the country to begin with. Look at all the money we spent to facilitate them. Dell makes computers out of parts that are available to anyone who wants to buy them. It's not rocket science. It is a national disgrace and it has been to our detriment and it will be to our everlasting shame that the public monies tossed before Michael Dell, to bring him here, and the public monies tossed before him, to keep him here, were not invested to develop an Irish business in the exact same field. We should not have been making Michael Dell the most respected computer manufacturer on the planet, we should have been in competition with him. Even if we'd failed, and failed miserably, it would have been our failure. Whose failure is it now - we know whose loss it is.

Will the government or any of the absolute gobshites in opposition learn a single lesson from this? No, not in the least, this whole debacle will be reduced to idiots mouthing at each other about the cost of flying oxygen wasters around the planet. The national plan, so-called foreign investment and an inability to see or feel beyond one's own pockets are the underlying reason as to why this country is going down the toilet. Only in this case, it's the shite that's doing the flushing.

Of course, if they were to slum it and travel Ryanair Michael O'Leary would have charged them an extra €30 for the privilege of bringing the begging bowl on board with them.

Anyway, Willie is relatively small of stature - surely Coughlan could have thrown him into her hand luggage and bought a business class ticket - a la our beloved FAS executives...the stewardesses would have mistaken him for a bad tempered, a elaborately coiffed, chihuahua.
