In the UK they are, anyway

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7797775.stm

The report states a sharp rise in cases in N. Ireland. Anyone know if it's increased around the rest of our island? Almost everyone I know has been "Poorly" with winter colds and such, but they've not had 'flu.

Party of Five here for Christmas, three of the others just gone rotten with something today or at least complaining of such - brother confined to bed when should be out drinking. One or both of the two of us left will be struck down with it pretty soon I suppose in fact I think I feel some creeping flesh around the sinuses and I doubt it's related to the 2kg of chocolate I ate today. Will keep you posted.

Not sure I ever had the flu. Was in a state once for two days where I couldn't leave the couch/bed with the blurred vision, grogginess, doziness etc. etc. The flu is a lot more severe though I believe ...

I have a cough too - it's incipient but I think it will blossom into something foul.

Or maybe I could just start taking the hypochondriasis tablets again. Are you suffering with it yourself ?

Auditor |9 it sounds like a grade A hangover to be combined with an exponential snot ridden mucus - ridden bord failte ridden spa development.

Mince pies and sausage rolls are the answer.

jalapeno peppers cactus - your only man

How does cold cause colds and flu will anyone tell me ? People go swimming on Christmas day and half of them don't die - theyre probably stronger for it. Imagine saying to someone at your new year's eve party - "O, you spilled some ice on your lap? Would you like a Lemsip in case you get the flu ?"

Sounds like the little house of horrors auditor 9

Weve had a flow of sickly vistors too. One has just left to do the Angelas Ashes tour of Limerick followed by the post colonial (?) tour of Derry, in a haze of gooey guckey grim and gloopey boggy bacterial bedridden bionasties.

Still planning the traditional Christmas Day swim. whether in freexing Irish sea current or a gently lapping Boomtime heated swimming pool the xmus swim will prevail

Influenza Virus (Flu Virus)

The flu is a respiratory illness caused by infection of the Influenza virus which belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family. Infected individuals usually experience a rapid onset of flu symptoms which typically include: muscle aches, high fever, head ache, chills, fatigue, dry cough and runny/stuffy nose. Symptoms begin within 48 hours of infection and generally occur suddenly; recovery from the primary infection may take up to two weeks.

Flu complications can involve secondary infections such as life-threatening bacterial pneumonia or pneumonia caused by the Influenza virus itself. Reports estimate that annually five to twenty percent of the population of the United States becomes infected with the flu with over 35,000 deaths related to complications each year.
