You may need to be careful with comments like that, considering there's a recession and there are those out there who can't afford the turkey and might find a pre-stuffed johnfás a more catchable and tasty alternative...

"River" ? Joni Mitchell's "Blue" .. a classic album - I have it vinyl as well as CD. I don't care if it works but it was worth it for 50c just for the cover even.
There haven't been many new Christmas songs in the last few years - you could count them on your left hand and half of them are by Cliff Richard. No, no one really writes Christmas songs anymore - maybe we've reached Peak Christmas Songs ?

I was only discussing Christmas songs over a pint last night... we are living in a real barron patch when it comes to them and most songs which are released tend to be covers of older songs. Can't blame Cliff Richard for trying, he still manages Christmas Number 1 every few years - I got my parents tickets to his concert at the point for Christmas - they'll be delirah.

I got a great Christmas present from my bank manager - a desk calendar that each month has a different image with my name hidden on it. For instance, in April, there is a picture of Easter Eggs, painted onto one of the eggs is my name... in July there is a picture of a child making my name on the beach out of shells. Very clever!

Happy Christmas one and all. I am off for dinner with some friends and thereafter to midnight communion. I may be on just gone midnight to wish you a true Christmas but if not I wish you and yours a peaceful and happy day.
-- And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Not much on the auld holiday these years but it is a time for familiar and sometimes unexpected meetings of friends to share a few sherberts during a laid back oasis and to put aside the burdens of our hectic lifestyles . Best of luck to all during the holidays and the new year.
