Sounds like your computer or connection might be a bit slow. Are other sites working ok for you ? Else I don't know why you're getting "endless commands as well as text". If the thing is slow, then the buttons won't look like pictures but will have text behind them until they load ... is that it ? Also, when you are in editor mode you have the option of simple and fancy editor mode. This is the LAST button above and has two As - a small one and a big one. When it's pink it's in fancy editor mode i.e. you SEE the images you post rather than just the hypertext link. If you press the A/A button while pink and switch off the pink it returns to simple mode - grey - which suits me fine as you can place stuff right in your post. |

| The portal/latest discussion has changed for me. The centre column listing thread titles is very narrow. This is causing thread title text to wrap around into a few lines with the result that you have to scroll down a lot to see the threads. No doubt it is complicated by the fact that my screen/resolution seems to be narrower than most of you. |

| I think the screen resolution is a big issue. I always found the portal page was poor on my laptop but then since the new laptop I got last week, which is widescreen, I can see how the portal is really meant to look.
Is it possible to build a webpage in a way which alters itself depending on the resolution of one's screen? |

| It is great cactus, works really really well. I'm sorry I had meant to give you a report on it sooner but it slipped my mind. I have absolutely no complaints with it, it is relatively light, has a nice big screen which I suppose wouldn't be so good if you were on the move all the time but it makes using it generally quite a bit easier. Has a DVD player and all the rest. The black is nice and the lid is shiny, which is... shiny . I would go for the one I went for which is one step above the basic model, I think it was 329 EX VAT. The only difference being that mine has a pentium rather than a celeron processor (which the cheaper one has). I was told this was an important extra to buy. If you are getting Microsoft Office make sure you get the Student & Teacher edition, you mentioned it was for your daughter. It is much cheaper than the full edition and it has all that you need.

You could start a thread, post the video, and if you don't want comments I could lock the thread. |

Is it possible to build a webpage in a way which alters itself depending on the resolution of one's screen? You can do it with normal html so all the columns resize but if you have a pic or a vid in them it can cause problems. I don't know what the young folks code the pages in these days. I assume one is quite limited by forumakers technology architecture. |

I assume one is quite limited by forumakers technology architecture. It's a bit complex for a lazy bast*** like me but I'm getting there. The portal can be coded relatively so that images will fit by percentage into the width of your screen. The more recent images I've been posting should be like this but there are still probably some absolute pixel values hardcoded in there on the portal somewhere that are stretching the screen so I'll be rooting around for them now. In between the php and the html there's a CSS file of tons of weird code too for the screen layout and I've been jackacting with this from time to time too and the widths could be governed from there but it's a long nasty file of code that has very little comments to tell you what is what so it's a matter of switching things on and off in order to see what does what. EVM adventured in there before me and has been mapping it out in a small way so it's given me a great introduction to all this tech, not that I fully understand how a css file fits in yet. PHP CSS HTML. All TLAs nearly - great fun. If you click on the video archive link below where I post the youtubes you might see the archive page fits your screen Zhou. If it doesn't, I give up (for now) |

| Any thoughts on a new domain name? It's none of my business but I think yous should spring for a .ie. It ties it specifically to Ireland. It was suggested to me yous use 'bolitics.ie' with the tagline of "for all the bolloxes banned or run out of politics.ie". Invite Cochrane to post and then ban his sorry ass. |

Invite Cochrane to post and then ban his sorry ass. He never drops in for tay now anymore, does Dave .. Zhou Enlai isn't around to see how my portal is working out for him ? I put in a few percentage signs into the code there. It's quite quiet here today - must be dole day or something. |

| Apologies for the lack of attention. They are making me work in here. The video archive page shows 4 evenly spaced columns. The total width is wider than my screen though. The width of the portal page is slighly wider than my screen but not as much as it used to be. Perhaps the overall width has contracted and the central column has paid the price? Is codewright still available for editing various languages? |

| Thanks for the feedback Zhou - I should just fire up the other pc and open the site on IE - it's your view that it has. I'll try to figure out what the video archive screen's problem is - could be the Admin Area Portal Management System ahem, could be the CSS file (doubt it) or could be the html on that new page which I started with it specifically in mind to code it relatively.
No idea what codewright is - a click and drag interface ? I always found those code generating packages more complicated than coding I suppose. |

| Portal loaded quickly when I had firefox during IE crisis. It is slow to load in IE. Codewright was hard core techy. It helped you space and read raw code by colour coding start and end commands. You specified the compiler which carried out the build. It meant you could use codewright for any language. All the cool techies used it so they could look down thir noses at MSDEV and VB users. |

| Codewright for any language ? Impressive - must be a rake of compilers in one program.
I have the IE view up now, the right hand column is massive .. ! which it isn't in Firefox. The portal management panel shows me the columns should be |-18%-| ---- 64% ----|- 18% -|
which they are in Firefox but not in IE on the same machine. Some of this code was written for Firefox which probably explains why a lot of users here tend to have Firefox - the rest think the place is broken which it is sometimes. It's just not talking to IE properly though, or not providing for some exception. I'll try to find it though. |

| It's a good idea cos machine nation hardly trips off the tongue and why leave the majority of innocent bystanders as prey for David's devilish machinations. Seriously, the site merits more than 20 people online at one time and a good name change could help get more people - politics should be in the name somewhere. Politics should not be the sole preserve of Cochrane. Politicalfix.ie...bolitics.ie as mentioned above isn't bad. Politicalprisoners.ie or to piss David off - politcal.ie |

| But we don't aim to be a site purely for political discussion. There have already been public discussions regarding the establishment of a specialised legal discussion group on the site and there are also threads on cookery, philosophy, religion etc. We are also not aiming to be a mere copy of politics.ie, what would be the point? We believe there is room in the market for a site which although politics is at the centre of its being, also has room for discussion on a plethora of topics without being the catch all sort of site that boards.ie is. |
