Yeah I just can't say I know what exactly it is you're doing there but it sounds like a reverse of 'Wine' - a linux program which runs Windows under Linux.

It's weird if you can't see your files and I'd say you've looked around thoroughly. The folder might not be called anything like Windows Vista at all. But you've a dual boot anyway is it ? You start up the computer and it goes to windows but then you can switch linux on while it's running ?

Have you 19 gigs free on Windows ? Ubuntu would probably grab the minimum which is 5 GB anyway unless you'd less left on disk.

For me the whole thing is crisper and acts and reacts a lot quicker than Windows. That's not the only thing I like but you can't knock Windows for trying to be everything to everyman and half succeeding.

I can choose which one to boot into when i start the computer.. but i installed ubuntu while in windows and can uninstall it in the same way should the notion take my fancy... i'm not sure what the story is with files now though... i was able to just go into the root c when using it as a live cd but now the option isn't there, it's odd :S like i've my HP_Recovery partition/other harddrive available to me but the closest thing i have to c:\ is "File System" and when I go in there there's none of my files from Windows... it's like "c:\ubuntu" is the rootiest it can get or something Surprised

Yeah the directory structure is slghtly different but fairly DOS like too so not so strange. It might be presented differently in x-windows with Home folder being the higher one. Sometimes I don't think the presentation of the filessystem is consistent between Windows and maybe the terminal view.

Sounds like you're getting around it fairly well though - it's cool that it treats your windows like just another disk or something - cheeky.
