Does gardening count as exercise? I certainly feel out of breath. Bluebells have come up on dog's grave.

Gardening most certainly does count!! Took me two days to recover from last weekend's gardening, lawn-mowing, allotment-digging!! Does running for the train at the last minute count, as it's the only exercise I get apart from gardening?!?! ( ** will finish "Collapse" tomorrow ... ...that'll give me renewed energy ) |

The swimming is going well, I am feeling all floppy after a half an hours worth of lengths. My vague aim is to be swimming for an hour a session in three weeks time. How's the running going?

That sounds very positive, cf. I like the water and I can swim but feel as though my heart is about to burst out of my chest after half a length - I have always found it far more difficult to make progress in swimming, though I'd like to. There was a time when I could comfortably run ten miles on a Sunday morning (will I ever see those days again?) but 22 metres in the pool was physically painful. Any advice? I've good technique as a swimmer but I haven't been able to sustain it.

Its all down to the breathing. If you concentrate on making sure you take a good slow complete breath out (over two or three strokes), I think everything else will fall into place. Also relax, and don't worry about the stroke until your comfortable with your breathing.
