| The entire membership of the British National Party has been leaked online. Many members now face losing their jobs owing to restrictions within their profession - police officers, prison officers etc. Can't say I have any sympathy. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/nov/19/bnp-listThat said, I am disgusted by threats of violence against members which have been reported on the news. |

That said, I am disgusted by threats of violence against members which have been reported on the news. It's a tough one, alright. The person choosing to do the leaking did so in furtherance of their own political agenda, and knowing that people would lose their jobs over it - but at the same time, if your terms of employment preclude your membership of the BNP, you should not be a member of the BNP - and if you are a member of the BNP, you should be willing for that to be known. |

It can't be said any more clearly than that, ibis. From reading the report linked by johnfás, I'm at a loss to understand why they needed all the information about people's children and why it was kept as it was on a database. |

| Yes, it seems ridiculous that they were storing that level of information on its members. Also seems very arbitrary in that some members don't have much information stored on them whilst others have an awful lot (I had a look at the list). They have family memberships so they must view the BNP as akin to a tennis club or something . What age do you have to be to join an Irish political party, in general? |

| The comment for one guy noted that he was a former member of Labour, the LibDems, the Greens and UKIP. Wonder what he had against the Tories? |

| And this had to happen on the one day in the year I've been off-line Ah. Its on Wikileaks. I note that the BNP has "family membership." Some of these people are minors. This is extraordinarily damaging for the BNP - it is hard to believe there isn't a definite agenda there, not just a personal grievance. |

Wonder what he had against the Tories? Is that the one who is also a Vicar? If it is it came out that he was a BNP member about a year ago and he left the party in disgrace following a period of reflection imposed by his bishop . |
