If Myers' latest outpourings are not an incitement to riot, I don't know what is. He's now recommending that public sector workers be partly paid in - wait for it - 'time-expired' bonds so that they will have to eat in restaurants, buy flowers and pots of paint.

This is seriously irresponsible journalism.

Aragon, you have a lot to answer for! I purposely don't read the Irish rags becuase of this type of unjounalistic bullshit. Evil or Very Mad We'll let you off this one time - but be warned! Very Happy

Oh well, this highlights the fundamental problem with our focus on business and finance in Ireland. Big business owned mejia just doesn't give a damn about its readership and believes that they can fool the average joe on a daily basis.

Meyers, the so-called journalist, is only outdone by Meyers the economist. Don't save for a rainy day! Don't save to invest in the future! The only place one can put money is in banks and they don't return enough? (Obviously never heard of alternative asset investment). And, when the emergency arises in our hyper-inflated economy, you won't have a bean to deal with the emergency, but you will have a stack of useless shite which can't be converted into value.

Does he think that the patriotic consumer can then turn to the multi-nationals for a bail out?:

"Look, I've spent all my cash to ensure you and your shareholders are well remunerated but I've spent all my cash and have an emergency. I need you to return some cash now. What? Oh, I understand. In a free market economy, the consumer's job, aka Meyers & Co., is to spend and not think about the future. And, free market businesses can't possibly return cash because it's a free market economy where the consumption has been completed and can't be reveresed. Oh well, maybe I can get a loan."

I wonder if Meyers spends every penny of his wages? Open your books Meyers. Let us see you do your own bidding for the good of business!

Ireland, from its toes to the top of its head, is corrupt. I'm not talking about scandal but the corruption of honesty, integrity and almost any other base standard of behaviour that makes a society workable and liveable. Irish "jounalists" attitude is a carbuncle on the ass of Ireland and this latest tripe is unconcealed contempt for the ordinary citizen.

I can only imagine if the syphllitic shite that has been spewed out of the Irish mejia over the last decade exists in a hundred years time that people will view it with amusement, bemusement and a wonder that people could be so irresponsible and earn a wage off such irresponsibility.

That's a good piece of writing Aragon. The amount of money earned by the Press for property advertising is the root of the thing. You see local newspapers who rely on Local Authority advertising for revenue shutting their mouths in just the same way.

I read that Myers article too Aragon but the first thing that came to mind was the opening of Michael Moore's most recent book - about the American election. It's a peculiar book but I assumed Kevin Myers' article to be a spoof in the light of the opening question in the Ask Mike section where he answers some guy about the topic of spending - or not. It's supposed to be a hilarious read (and I read it for a bookclub) but it's more of the same.
