| This website has created a list of the ten most important events in economics of the last decade. While I agree with the number 1 placing, I am at odds with the US-centric view of the list. Where is the rise of China? What about the global commodity super-cycle? What about the rise(and subsequent fall) of private equity? Your thoughts please.

I'd say that the SSIAs were among the ten most influential economic events in Ireland. On a global scale, I'm not so sure. |

| Private Equity is what happened to Eircom - bought by some Aussie investment bank?
Is internet money (paypal. ebay, amazon etc.) important or is that just an extension of VISA ?
What's the global-commodity super-cycle, Precious?
(and why doesn't Radiohead giving their album away for nothing get a mention?) |

(and why doesn't Radiohead giving their album away for nothing get a mention?) The way that virtually every commodity has risen substantially in price over the past 5-10 years. Coffee, grain, oil, silver, gold and so much more are so much more expensive these days. |

| Climate change and the economic dilemma it presents - otherwise the list is pretty good. |

| It was a bit creepy, that list - first Iraq changes to the euro and gets wiped and then it ends with the Iranian bourse opening and changing too to euros ... |

| I would have to assume that this Chicho guy that put together this list is a big time conspiracy theorey guy. He makes reference to Zeitgeist the movie but what is icing on the cake is the mention of General Smedley Butler. This general is believed to have been approached in the 30s by Prescott Bush and his buddies with the plan for a fascist takeover but he would have non of it. After his career was over he had time to think things through and wrote a book called War is a Racket or something like that. Bearing this in mind that is a very interesting list. As far as I am concerned the biggest event in 10 years was last week when the fed saved the entire system by preventing Bear Sterns from going into bankruptsy. They held derivatives with a notional value of 17 trillion dollars. If they had to be unwound and the rest of the assets sold the crash that would have happened would be huge. Morgan has taken all the derivative positions over lock stock and barrel and they will expire over time. Even opponents of the fed agree that they saved the day last week. |
