Drugs and the CIA - Conspiracy Theory or Conspiracy ?

It brought to mind the stories I had heard about how the CIA had flooded the black US ghettoes with drugs in the 1970s and 80s.

I would like to explore the connection of the CIA and drugs, good, bad or neutral. I would appreciate any information and reliable sources. If there is a conspiracy theory, lets expose it. Likewise if there's a conspiracy.

There was a big thing about drugs and the CIA in Vietnam. I completely forget the details though, but it was linked to the whole missing in action saga.

I'll watch Rambo II and see if I can gather any details.

As for Afghanistan, I think it has more to do with letting a bunch of warlords and criminals (the old Northern Alliance/United Front) run the country with minimun interference. To actually interfere would break the golden 'do-the-barest-amount-neccessary-to-make-it look-like-a-victory' rule.

I would also be concerned about promoting types of music linked to drugs. Like techno music.

I would argue that all music is linked to drugs in some way.
As for the CIA being linked to drug dealing - Didn't Howard Marks in one of his books detail how a contact in the CIA wanted him to smuggle cannabis into the US using their own military planes? I think I remember something like that

That video is very interesting, cactus. Have you any idea what year it's from? John Kerry is interviewed in it and says he believes there are elements of the US government who are implicit in importing drugs.
Another interesting thing is the story of the journalist featured in it, Gary Webb. He was found dead in 2006 and the coroner declared his death a suicide. The interesting thing is that he managed to shoot himself in the head twice.
