Apologies, Seathrún, I wasn't reading the thread closely enough. There was a lot of stuff about Meath and the country in general, I felt there needed to be representation from Dublin. Thank you for providing it.

Nearly every Cool- begins with Cúl or Cúil as the plural which is common in placenames like 'Cúil Raithin' Coleraine or 'Cúil an tSúdaire' Portarlington

Theres a Gaelscoil near the coolcotts in Enniscorty. What the etymology of the word is I don't know. If I'm allowed a flight of fancy I'd say Cúil Scotach beacause a clann of the mc williams of the Route(near Ballymoney) were forced out in the 1400's and moved the whole way to Wexford. They were descendants of the Dál Riada who took my avatar to Galloway with them.

And yes they are takin the piss.

'Culo' is also 'backside' in Spanish. And 'Cul-de-Sac' in French (bottom of the bag) Maybe it's Latin origin

The PNC had translated Cold Cottages into (literal) Irish. This did my head in just a little.

The scotaigh was a term to describe the various tribes in central and east ulster that founded the kingdom of Dál Riada in western scotland and hence the name Scotland. Fergus MacRuairc and the boyos. A chieftain , Brian Carach Ó Néíll, who 'never liked to hang one at a time' is refered to in British State papers as late as the 1570's as 'a bastard kin of scottee'

I'm reluctant to give any hints considering I hadn't a clue about the others - but Seathrún was getting very close.
