We should headhunt someone from a German forum, a native speaker I mean. Just to pop in every so often for ein Tasse Kaffe und etwas schreiben.

Don't get any of the following

A Berliner/in
A Schwabe/¨in
A Sachse/in
A Bayer/in

None of these have a sufficiently firm grasp of German grammer judging by the way they speak and all have heavily-accented German.

This factor obviously rules out all Austrians and Swiss.

The person you are looking for probably comes from Hannover. So, out of 100 million German speakers, we have narrowed it down. Find somebody from Hannover.

I could post your wonderful table, but it's too big for one post, perhaps Auditor #9 could adjust the settings so I can post it.

Herrvoragend!!

Der Spruch (saying) ist zwar hervorragend und wahr (excellent and true!!)aber ich interessiere mich nicht sehr fuer (not interested in) Fussball.

Die Geschichte vom Herrn Daum (the story of Herr Daum) auf der anderen Seite (on the other hand) hoert sich spannend an. (sounds exciting).

Sowohl Fussballtrainer als auch Philosoph (Philosopher and footballtrainer)? - Wer haette es moeglich gedacht? (Who would have thought it possible?)

Greutzi, miteinand'!

http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/0,1518,566850,00.html

The US is determined to break Swiss banking secrecy and is using a case against UBS to do it.

The Libyans threatening to withdraw their dough from Switzerland is food for thought in more ways than one. Very Happy

In a way, yes. If the Americans get their way, as suggested by the story in "Der Spiegel", then we will have total transparency in Swiss banking. We will know exactly how much the Libyans have there and how much they may withdraw.

... and it ended on Bach's Matthew's Passion ... * sigh *, total zufrieden ....

... for non-Germanisten, the link is to a programme just ended on BBC Radio 3 (which will hopefully still be available for at least a few days on the internet) called "Words and Music" - a miscellany of readings and music about different themes every week. Tonight, it was words and music about Berlin and took us right through the history of that wonderful and crucial city.

Genau, Atticus, herzlichen Dank.

http://www.bar-jeder-vernunft.de/public/ticket/?loadFrames=1

This is the link to Bar Jeder Vernunft in Berlin. This place is a one-off. The food is good and the drinks help to bring a good evening to greatness. The best cabaret club in the city with some real stars appearing regularly. Ute Lemper is a regular and I even saw (Fassbender muse) Hanna Schygulla sing here. Looking forward to Tim Fischers Zarah Leander show on October 7th. I heard a lot of good things about it

If ever you are in Berlin, it's a must!

Great looking recommendation there, SlimBuddha. Won't get to Berlin again til the Spring but the place will be a definite to visit.
Fischer looks interesting too - I'll keep an eye our for any London or Brussels shows.

I see that The Tiger Lillies are also there in October. Have seen them a number of times, brilliant though quite scary and not everyone's cup of tea.

... one mad night when they were on stage with the Dresden Dolls and Mark Almond ... I love German cabaret ...
