Came across this on Reuters: At least 18 killed as Somali militants strike. The military wing of the Islamic Courts al-Shabab have launched attacks on the government forces, both in Mogadishu and across the country.

In trying to find out what the Ethiopians made of the whole conflict I read this.
Quote :
It has been more than a year now since the Ethiopian government began to actively assist the TFG [Transitional Federal Government] of Somalia in establishing its legitimacy and in putting an end to lowlessness in the country. A while ago, global terriorism sought final refuge in somalia believing that it found onather most ideal breading spot for havoc and distruction after Taliban Afghanistan. For a time it, indeed, did find this safe haven thanks to the people who sared its aims. If things had turned the way Al-Qaeda and its local affiliants had designed. the lives of many millions of people in the region and, possibly, across africa would have been quite different. The threat of total distruction was averted with the blood paid by a number of somali heros and the Ethiopian allies.
It has all the hallmarks of a GWB statement.

More from Somalia, US air strikes kill 'up to' 30 people, including two leading militants.

Somalia had been hotting up over the past month with increased attacks by al-Shabaab, but the US has made it clear that it too has a part to play in the struggle.
