This is the kind of thing that I think is a problem with DNA databases - once in existence, they get extended in all kinds of ways.

I don't like the way private companies have bought up the 'rights' to the DNA codes of entire populations ( I think Iceland might be one of the sellers). One's DNA should be one's own inalienable property.

But I would love to see DNA mapping of Ireland to show the actual population groups and migration patterns, rather than the imaginary ones. I had thought someone was working on this but couldn't find anything on the net.

In this case it's a cop out to avoid dealing with the issue of troubled or difficult kids in a more resource intensive way.

Strangely though, I saw that headline in yesterday and assumed that it was something to do with child protection, as opposed to criminalisation, following on from the recovery of the little girl who had been missing.

I wonder would people's attitudes be different if that was the case?

I don't see that it's possible to prevent that brave new world - though I imagine I'll be well advanced in years by the time DNA is required to order a lunchtime sandwich.

There's a classic modern sci-fi film noir about this kind of thing called GATTACA where people are judged at birth on a genetic basis which seems like it could be coming someway true with news like this.

Does anyone know if there is an adequate body of law which protects people given such technology as we soon could have ?

Your kids could be growing up in a Brave New Room 101 alright. It's Hitler's dream come true.
