Low Tech: Recycling, Reuse Empty

Ok, this is about rag rugs and though not very fond of them overall, I saw them today in a shop and it struck me that recycling can be low tech and maybe should be low tech first of all. They seem very comfortable to walk on and are very cheap. They have the benefits of not drawing on the already limited resources available to us as well as simultaneously incorporating rubbish you may have lying about the house and instead of tripping over it you may now walk on it.

Also, their construction might engage an otherwise idle mind for hours - some even more idle minds for days which could serve a useful purpose in distracting certain portions of the population who would otherwise be out causing mischief around the City or rocketing down dual carriageways in brand-new BMWs capable of doing 200 miles an hour, completely bulletproof to the outside world.

A good site on the history of the rag-rug here
http://www.sandpoint.net/~rafter4/article.htm

Please feel free to post any further low-tech recycling industries on this thread here below. If you have something low-tech that doesn't involve recycling, why not open a thread on it here and call it a similar name - e.g. Low Tech: Pesticides; Low Tech: Solar Cooking; Low Tech: Weaponry; Low Tech: Contraception..

Did someone already mention treating/purifying water by leaving it stand in the sun in a plastic bottle for a few hours?
