PostSubject: Radio fan?   Thu Jan 08, 2009 5:27 pm

As a major talk radio fan I decided to treat myself to a new radio from Argos recently. It  accesses your wireless network for internet radio and podcasts and also has DAB and standard FM. At €89 it is excellent value and gives access to quality radio from all over the world. No more hiss on BBC 4 - bliss!

I'd buy that for a dollar. I'm a fan too, can't get enough sometimes, other times can't get any. I'd love to be able to listen to RTE, Newstalk and the other one all at once sometimes.

Is it possible to record stuff onto a USB stick with your device? I was looking for a car-radio version of something like this but they haven't been invented yet. That way I could pre-record different stuff and listen to it later.

Nothing beats BBC Radio 4. I tend to listen on my laptop and on the home hifi which is connected to the NTL box so provides perfect reception. I'm holding out buying something like the product linked until they drop further in price, which I suppose they will when they become more mainstream.

Why not use podcasts through iTunes and then get a car radio which has a USB input - they sell those radios in Aldi and Lidl quite regularly. I podcast all the time, on my cycle in every morning I listen to the previous evening's NBC Nightly News and then on the way home I catch up with BBC programmes such as From Our Own Correspondent and Start the Week as well as European focused programmes such as those from Deutsche Welle.

That's what I did but moving station to station on the laptop is time consuming and on my decrepit laptop BBC was hard to get for some reason, sound quality generally is poor and it switches itself of every few hours and takes 15 mins to reboot! Buying the radio is far cheaper than a new laptop! Besides it was my birthday...

Every other internet radio was over 200. It's incredibly easy to set up and use. In fact when setting up originally my laptop switched itself of and I thought I'd have to input all the stations again but was delighted to find the radio had picked them all up instantaneously. Also It is small, light and easy to move from room to room. Anyway enough of the commercial - I love a bit of tech that actually works!
