Irish medics say they cannot stand by any longer:

Quote :

Reperfusion arrhythmias

How will they manage reperfusion arrhythmias? How will they take a history from a breathless, scared, elderly patient? How will they maintain their skills when it is obvious they will never have enough numbers to gain any real skill or knowledge? When asked at a recent meeting why this was not piloted in Dublin, with the patients and paramedics being initially treated by them in a major hospital and then within minutes of the hospital, the HSE employee announced that Dublin folk could not be used as guinea pigs. I had to have this confirmed by two people at the meeting before I could believe it. After a stunned silence, a HSE minion jumped up to do a bit of damage limitation. But too late — the HSE words were spoken; lives are cheap as long as they are not in Dublin.

It seems so inhuman -uncaring and distant . and this in the light of the fas scandal
Sad about Harney. This woman once took a principled stand against Haughey in the 1980s. She appeared honest and competent then.
Now she seems to have become the very thing she faught against.

But they say Haughey was a good man until the 1960s.

Its the system. Its like the ring in "the Lord of the Rings". It corrupts whoever gets too close.

“minion”? not a very caring sharing word is it?

The well known “save our hospital” doctor tells us what she heard but not what the “minion” said by way of clarification, I wonder why that was.
She also said, “Not only are patients’ lives being put at risk, but consultant careers are also being changed unilaterally by the HSE”, you’d imagine if the first claim was true you wouldn’t bother very much with the second problem or maybe you would, I’m not a doctor, what would I know, I’m only a minion.

Maybe the good doctor is right about Monaghan Hospital, but this is not the way to go about it.

Imo it is inarguable that people are theoretically better off with centralised large scale hospitals for complex conditions, including cancer (provided proper transport is provided). The north east has all the appearance of being a health shambles. Where is the central regional hospital, that the other regions have ? Services appear to be moved about and closed down without putting the supposedly better, centralised service in place. There is one horror story after another coming out of Our Lady of Drogheda.

HSE management structures are an overstaffed, unco-ordinated nightmare.

In relation to the linked article, I am all for paramedics being trained to carry out emergency procedures: in rural areas with long travel times to hospitals this is even more beneficial than in cities. The training as described in the link sounds a bit sparse.
