Ahem what?

Anyway no mention of 22nd August in Irish history could be complete without mentioning the shooting of DI Swanzy in Lisburn, Co. Antrim. He was implicated in the murder of the Lord Mayor of Cork in March of 1920 and transferred to Country Antrim. His shooting triggered anti-Catholic riots in the area.

Does it have to be 'On This Day in Irish History'?

On this day in 1926, gold was discovered in Johannesburg;
on this day in 1944 the Soviet Union capture Romania;
in 1963 an X-15 test plane reaches an altitude of 67 miles;
in 1989 on this day, the first ring of Neptune is discovered;
in 2004 some Edvard Munch paintings are stolen from a museum in Norway;
and on this day in 2007
Quote :
The Storm botnet, a botnet created by the Storm Worm, sends out a record 57 million e-mails in one day

Next year on this day we just add to this thread so there are ever only going to be 365 of these threads, isn't that right?

I like the thread on Irish History, some misgivings aside (gross understatement? - Ed.) but if you don't want to discriminate I think if we shouldn't ignore Martian and Venusian/Venerean history. Wink
