1000 Sandwiches Empty
PostSubject: 1000 Sandwiches   1000 Sandwiches EmptyTue Aug 19, 2008 12:02 am

Welcome to the long awaited Gardening and Cookery forum cheers to be found in Home/Welcome and Chat/Gardening and Cookery !

We expect this to be our most successful forum judging from the response from quite high profile personalities who have somehow already found their way into our site development forum.

The opening ceremony will be this thread: 1000 Sandwiches! It will go on until 1000 real sandwiches are described in this, which could be until Halloween depending on how many batchelors are on the site. The thread will close once there are 1000 sandwiches described in the thread, preferably with your own pictures of your own sammwidges ! Very Happy Also in future if you would be so kind as to add the amount of calories your sangwitch might deliver to your body - you will find sites on the net which give ideas of calories but the easiest way to do it is weigh your ingredients, look at the back of the packet of cheese or whatever, and then proceed to some long division at the dinner table. There will be a prize for the biggest calorie count of a sandwidge. It would be amazingly appreciated if could also include vitamin counts stored in your creation.

The first: (a very fancy one)

#1
Breakfast Sandwitch:
Croissant
Rasher
Cheese
Blueberries

Enjoy! cheers

Thanks Auditor #9

#2
Tomato sandwiches:
Crusty white bread and butter, tomatoes, salt and pepper. Tayto garnish.

Squash into a box and eat, slightly soggy (the sandwiches) on the beach.

The gourmet version has a bayleaf in it.

The Triple C Delight

#3
What you need:

Emmental Cheese(3 slices)
Pepper(preferably freshly cracked)
Coleslaw(either from the shop or to Kate P's delicious recipe)
Cucumber slices
Bread and Butter
Salad Cream

What you need to do:

1.Lay out slices of bread and butter to taste.

2.Put two cheese slices on the left-hand slice. Spoon on coleslaw and sprinkle with pepper.

3.Place another slice of cheese above this and add cucumber slices.

4.Put a bit of salad cream on the cucumbers and a bit of pepper.

5.Place the other slice on top. Serve the sandwich with a hearty cup of tea, a Tunnock's Caramel and enjoy!

One of the nicest things to do with a sadnwich is to put on half your toppings onto the slice of bread, then put on a slice of toast, and then put on the other half of the toppings. A nice slice of toast in the middle of a sandwich is delicious.

Ohh AfricanDave has pre-empted the fried sanwidges spate that will no doubt turn up. Very novel. Why not put some ingredients around it Dave and get a number ! #6 is currently up for grabs !

If you haven't tasted the baguette sandwich with ham and butter, you are not a normal human being.

Well the pre-ten prize for innovation has to go to AfricanDave for adding a simple crunch to a perennial snack.

We're already starting to get a bit Avoca/Bendini and Shaw and sandwich boutiquey with the prawn and avocado on brown and to arnaudherve goes the avant-garde honour of eating bambi in a bun.

One of the all time greats:

#8 Chicken and Mayo and Lettuce
Yum yum yum

and even better inside toasted bread too

what's croque monsieur, monsieur?

This thread is a brilliant idea, Audi.

Toast is great in sandwiches - much better than toasted sandwiches I think.

#9 Toast and Tomato Sandwich
My favourite is two slices of toast, buttered and filled with a sliced, fresh and flavoursome tomato with black pepper and a little salt. As you eat the first half, the toast warms the tomato and as you eat the second half, the whole lot is cold and the toast is crunchy. Yum. Whether you butter the toast while hot hot or just after, is entirely a matter of preference (though I prefer the latter).

#10 Ham with pear remoulade (ish)
Thin slices of home-cooked ham in fresh (grainy) bread with a scrape of what I call pear remoulade; stewed pear with a little wholegrain mustard through it.

Croque monsieur is a heart-attack sandwich. affraid

#12 Old-fashioned Toastie
For this you need an old- fashioned toastie maker. Looks like this : -
1000 Sandwiches ED56300;Warehouse;Warehouse
Then make a cheese, ham and onion ( tomato optional) sandwich. Butter the bread both sides and pop in the toaster which automaically seals it all in when you clamp it shut. For best results cook on an open wood fire. MMMMMMMM MMMMMM

Shudders. Cucumber...a vile little vegetable. No offence intended but did you know that some people have a gene that enables them to smell and taste a horrible chemical in cucumbers and, to a lesser extent, in melons. I, unfortunately, am one of those. The smell is so strong for me I can tell if cucumber has touched something I've eaten. My mother, my brother and my daughter all have the same problem (not that we really see it as a problem).
Any other cucumber haters out there? Crying or Very sad
