1915- 10th Irish Division, less 29th Brigade, and commanded by Lt. General Sir Bryan Mahon landed at Suvla Bay. The landings were a bit of a disaster with almost an entire brigade of the 10th being put ashore on the wrong beach. Battalions were sent to different places than planned and came under command of different Brigade commanders and also their objectives changed accordingly. In fact Gen Mahon ended up with just two battalions, 6th and 7th Royal Munster Fusiliers, to take the 10th Divisions objective, the hill of Kiretch Tepe Sirte. By nightfall the Munsters had fought to within 100m of their objective. The missing Brigade, commanded by Gen Hill attacked and captured Chocolate Hill and Green Hill .

1922- The IRA cut the cable link between the United States and Europe at Waterville, Co. Kerry.

Births

1892- Tom Hazell was born in Clifden, Co. Galway. He served in the RFC in WWI, with Nos 1, 24 and 123 Sqdns. He finished his service with the rank of Major and earned an MC, DFC and Bar and a DSO on the way. He shot down 43 German planes. Died in Ireland in 1946.
