Bananas - An interesting thought

I don't know why; this fact popped into my head and I thought I'd share it with ye. Babanas are seedless, as you may have realised. You may not have pondered, though, where banana plants come from. Banana plants are clones, like strawberry plants. There are fears that a single disease could wipe out all the edible bananas in the world, thanks to increased globalisation.

Bananas are going extinct anyway I thought... and they are going to be replaced by bananas which are red when unripened (instead of green)... of course I only gained this information from a conversation in the pub one night so I have no idea of its accuracy.

Banana trees aren't actually trees. They're a type of herb. I'm not 100% sure how that works, but there you have it.

Ah, 'a man in a pub told me'. From the article I deduced that wild inedible bananas (which do have seeds) should be all right.

I've been calling them banana plants to avoid just that sort of confusion TheBear. Think of them as enormous shrubs.

Agreed, lostexpectation, abandoning a species or genera of seed should be treated as criminal, pretty much as abandoning a child at home and going to the Costas for Christmas.

Didn't bananas used to have little black dots in them? Weren't those seeds? (please don't say anything bad about bananas).

Memories of childhood and buying bananas at a stall where they cut them straight from the tree. Not all bananas are the same there is a whole botanical family. They are different shapes, some are for cooking, some are wild.

They are a good food if you are somewhere where the hygiene is questionable as they come with their own wrapping.

I always thought that bananas did have seeds they were the tiny black dots you see when you bite into one.

bananas do have seeds but can only obtain one or two per bunch. and they're tiny so you mostly cannot see them.

they are pretty much a genetic mutation which has been successful in evolutionary terms.

What could be more natural for a bunch of primates like us!

Remember banannas carry lots of potassium, which can be used to balance your artificially high sodium(salt) intake. To avoid all the civilisastional ailments like diabetes, hypertension etc, you should try to aim for a potassium sodium ratio of 4:1 as our cells depend on a checmical pump involving these two elements. Our recenthomo sapien ancestors (circa 10,000bc) had it at 20:1. Thanks to civilisation and the bread and salt which came with it many people ingest that ratio in complete reverse and are afflicted by many infirmities which were hitherto unknown in the natural environment.

The answer is to eat loads on bananas.
