What an age.
Scientist 1: How far away is that? (points indiscriminately into the night sky)
Scientist 2: Ohhh I dunno...
Scientist 3: Wait, I know! We'll use a laser!
Scientist 1&2: *gasp* (while scientist 3 points laser pointer at sky)
Scientist 1: But I can't see the wee red dot?
Scientist 2: Yeah, THATS how far away it is.
Scientist 2&3 exchange a smug knowing glance.
Scientist 1: Morons...

But laser is quite useful.
And fun pointing at people in the office.

CD / DVD players , Precision metal fabrication, distance measurement, spectroscopy, pointing at stuff, and loads more that I can't think of.

They use it to find hidden decay, eliminates the need for suturing in soft tissue operations, for root canal work and sculpting gums.

Personally - I owe my current (if tenous) employment to the Laser - We design and manufacture Lasers which etch and cut up silicon wafers.

Mad things alright - even tho I have to go every six months and get my eyes tested as Im exposed to lasers on a daily basis and there has been been this black dot following me around for the last 6 months
