A gadget/machine/device or discovery you like or admire

Post by Auditor #9 on Tue Mar 25, 2008 3:30 pm

List of important inventions and discoveries
http://www.inventionreaction.com/invention-timeline/

What's the best machine/invention/discovery in the world in your opinion? There's a lot in the list above but in today's modern kitchen I think this particular design is the best of its type...

This is not as good - it takes off way too much skin (important when you're a student) and it sprays potato stuff everywhere. I'm not fascist but it should be banned or at least boycotted.

The bravest invention I can think of is the first lunatic to try and put a ring through a Bull's nose. Hence begining pedigree.

I call my dishwasher The Liberator....

In our old rented lovenest, under the traditional rules of newly married division of labour I had a two legged, leaky and splashy dishwasher that was forever breaking down and just never worked when it was needed.

I love my new dishwasher, sometimes even a little bit more than the old one...

The dishwasher is a pretty handy device. It is the centre of cleaning up any kitchen. Unstack and stack one up and you're half-way to a clean kitchen.

The mobile phone is quite useful, especially in times of emergency. Delays can be explained, important communication immediately relayed and things sorted out.

Oh, and this is my 100th post! Woohoo!!!

What about the scissors - with applications in dressmaking, butchering, everything really...?

Scissors are quite versatile. They're useful in surgery as well.

Aaargh, don't do that. Successive weekends of hauling tons of soil from a to b (and occasionally back again). I'm developing a phobia of the damn things.

A scissors can also be a rather handy prosthesis.

And the stone age women would have used these microliths.

Actually did rent one of the mini excavators a while back. Now there is a fun bit of kit!

I think it's GREAT. It's such a simple idea I wonder why nobody thought of it years and tears ago. And it's impact and potential is huge.

The kettle is quite nice. Many goodnesses have had their genesis in my trusty Morphy Richards kettle. Mmm... I'll be making myself a cup of tea in the next few minutes.

That's a good one Seathrún - using a simple object or two and the earth's gravity to map out a straight line...
