Newsflash: New Political Party Launches

Post by Kate P on Sun Apr 20, 2008 8:46 pm

The Machine Nation - First With News...

The People’s Accountability, Transparency and Standards Party will launch tomorrow night at 8pm in the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth.

It was founded recently by Dr Florence Craven and Leo Armstrong - both of whom were active in political parties, FG and GP respectively.

They have a broad ranging manifesto and are deadly serious. It's their intention to run candidates across the country in the local elections.

As far as they're concerned, politics has failed the people and it is time for a return to basics so that people get value for their tax dollars and that public representatives and indeed public servants are accountable to the electorate.

They are focusing on the issues that affect the daily lives of ordinary people - dependable health, transport, employment - with prospects - and education and are particularly concerned about the increase in the cost of living and the pressure on wages.

They are two determined and capable people who, like Popeye, can stands no more.

Launch of the party and their manifesto. No website as yet.

EDIT: There will be no manifesto launch just yet either - apologies.

Fantastic. Are we first first ?

Any party who understands the concept of 'Taxpayer's Money' will get a vote from me.
I am sick of elected representatives regarding public funds as some kind of Monopoly Game.

I was sceptical about that too when they mentioned it first but they want something that people can play with and that will be instantly recognisable. They had some difficulty in general with finding a name and in the end, went for one that says on the tin exactly what they hope to do.

Great stuff Kate - it's actually very exciting. An anarchists dream - more and more parties until half the Dáil is independent and half the Dáil is green.

Are they going to come here to sell their wares? Smile If you give us an email address or two I will invite them over here to put up some info on their party. Maybe their manifesto. First live manifesto, first website for them... we're presentable enough aren't we?

How about giving Des Bishop a ring anyone?

No matter, we'll draft her an email anyway - she looks like someone qualified to comment on politics, society and possibly machines in relation to both. I've got a machinenation account set up at gmail and I could send it from that. These people need an outlet let's give it to them.

I was being serious. Prior to the arrival of our esteemed scribe here I spoke highly of his abilities and his opinions. What surprises me is that parties are not put together by groups even as small as here not to mention the sites with many more posters.
